There is a lot of confusion around the true role of a manager which, unfortunately, is often reflected in the work place. many people who are "good" at their role as an individual contributor in a team are thrown into a management role with little or no training, or indeed understanding of what is required of them. A recent poll found that more than 50% of managers received NO training before starting the job.
To aid understanding of the role, it is useful to think of it in three distinct parts, although in practice these overlap and integrate together in management situations.
