Performance Oriented Coaching
- Types of Coaching
We all like to compartmentalize our lives, but unfortunately
(or fortunately) the different areas of our lives overlap and are
bound together. So when I talk about different types of coaching
please be aware of the overlaps and how a coaching project could move
from, say, executive coaching to life coaching (and back again). The
great thing about coaching is that all individuals are different
and, as such, no two coaching assignments are ever the same.
- Executive Coaching
Executive coaching focuses on top level executives to bring the
most from the strategies and how they implement them with their team.
Executive coaching can be geared towards onboarding the executive
during his or her transition into a new environment, guiding the
executive through an organizational change, such as a merger or
restructuring, or training the executive to employ a new skill set.
- Team (Business) Coaching
Like individual coaching, team coaching focuses on improving
performance. In the case of a team, the coach observes the team's
current functioning, assesses the team's strengths and weaknesses,
and develops a plan for addressing any needed changes.
- Individual (Life) Coaching
When a person coaches an individual client - often marketed
as life coaching - the initial task involves the coach and client
working out a mutual understanding of the scope of work and
documenting that understanding in a coaching contract. Then the
coach helps the client to prioritise their current needs and looks
for ways to address any improvements.
- Organizational Coaching
In organizational development (OD), coaching forms an important
intervention designed to assess and improve performance of an individual
or a team. It is very important to improve the skills of the person
which can be achieved through proper training by which he can achieve
organizational goals and also enhance his knowledge and skills.
- How is Coaching different to Mentoring
A mentor often has many more years of experience than the
person being supported. Mentoring is akin to role modelling where
the client sees attributes, qualities or abilities in the mentor
that he/she wishes to learn or emulate.Coaching is a partnering of two equals, which focuses on the unique and intrinsic qualities already within the client that may not be recognised or appreciated. The coach helps the client affirm and embrace his or her own true self.
- How is Coaching different to Counselling
Counselling often looks into the past in order to discover,
heal and understand. Coaching, on the other hand, looks to the future
in order to make a good life even better. In coaching, the starting point is the client's desire for personal and professional success. Coaching focuses on forwarding all aspects of the client's life to become extraordinary; Coaching is not about how you came to be who you are; it's about getting you from where you are now to a future that you want.
